http://www.infonews.co.nz/news.cfm?id=45164 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxwjPkUFIvw http://www.leukaemia.org.nz/ I had a great time last year 2011 on May 21st, climbing for Lukemia and Blood Foundation (LBF), and it was just a shame i didnt manage to help gain more awareness and funds for them. Im sure I can do more at another event… As awesome as it was, some how
8.4km long around the senic Auckland harbour waterfront. At times it can have blustery winds, but this mostly flat course is more for entry level athletes wanting to take par tin a short course. I compete this each year in a different suit consisting of: Gorilla suit, knight suit, wetsuit, Batman suit, and The Stig.
Both of these events were 5km, and of course, in a gorilla suit 🙂 Both of them were not so much about being first, but more about public awareness of the event and, as always, enjoyment of sport and disability in sports.
I first completed this event in 2008, and enjoyed it so much I wanted to take part again. This is another very undulating course, and when I returned, had chosen in 2009 to compete (in the 36 degree heat) in a gorilla suit. I managed 39km before I had to take the mask off but
I managed to visit my sponsor child Peli Phelm in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. It was an amazing experience being able to get exposed to such extreme poverty and helped me be more humble and appreciative of my circumstances.
I was the first racechair to complete this event in the solo section. This event was a lot more difficult than I originally thought, 160 km (100 miles) around the Lake Taupo Lake. It was very hard due to the 23km before the course even had a flat!!! At 60km my handle bars snapped off…
In this fantastic event I manage to get hand controls in an old car and drive around the small Waikaraka Park dirt track, smashing into other cars. I fully recommend to anyone they take part in one of these events, its not so much about winning (but that is obviously the aim) as it is
This is a wonderfully scenic event running around Huntly area, out as far as the Huntly East Mine. This course is no longer suitable for racing wheelchairs. The course has changed a few times since I first started, running around the back of Hunlty and past the Power Station. Now it goes around the housing
After returning to New Zealand from being in the UK visiting family, I slept one night, woke up the next day, did this race, and the nex tday (Monday) started at Auckland University for my B.Ed Primary Teaching degree. Some how I managed to complete the course, but I recomended to the organisers that this
Fantastic course out the back of Manukau, more like ‘any where south’ course, and everywhere in between. I believe this course is no longer suitable for wheelchair entrants.
