LBC Firefighter Skytower Climb – 24th May

Each year Firefighters from around the country gather to race up the 1103 steps of the Auckland Sky Tower. The elevators generally only stop working once a year, so it’s lucky this event is on the same day.

LBC are the charity partner for this event, thanks to many sponsors that have come together to make this event happen. All the volunteers turn up from around 5am to go home around 5-6pm. Yeah it’s a long day, some even doing the stair climb, AND volunteering for the event. This was the 21st year of the event, with each year now raising more than a $1m!! The thing to keep in mind, is that there’s only 2,000 registered runners for the event, once a year, raising over $1m (each year) for the last 9years.

Scottie from Fired Up Events (not to be confused with Scotty Skytower) started this event back in 2005, he and his wife Heather do a fantastic job with the volunteers they have. Raised $17,500 in the first year 2005, raising over $1.9m 2025 event, over $17 million has been raised for blood cancer patients and their families.
